Janet Alder, sister of Christopher Alder, speaks in Trafalgar Square before the annual procession to Downing Street by the United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC) in remembrance of their family members and friends who died in police custody, in prison, in immigration detention or in secure psychiatric hospitals. Christopher Alder, 37, died handcuffed and face down surrounded by police officers in a Hull police station in April 1998 after choking on his own vomit. There have been 1,838 deaths in police custody or otherwise following contact with the police in England and Wales since 1990.
