LGBTQ+ communities around the world mourned the death of 30-year-old Sarah Hegazi after she ended her life in Canada on 14th June 2020. She had been jailed for promoting what the Egyptian state called 'sexual deviance' for having raised a rainbow flag during a concert in Cairo in 2017 and, after suffering torture in prison, had sought asylum in Canada following her release.
