2021 was another year of much reduced documentary photography activity for me during the Covid-19 pandemic - just 180 events shot as compared to 499 in 2019. As in 2020, though, that was a very small price to pay when so many around the world have suffered so much. Thank you to all of you who have had to go above and beyond to try to keep us safe and well during 2021, not least those working in our NHS.
Thank you also to all those who I was privileged to picture during 2021 and especially to the many committed and brave activists who continue to make such huge sacrifices to try to highlight, and to drive necessary action on, issues around the global climate crisis. It is an obscenity that in the midst of a climate emergency the UK government is jailing climate activists for highlighting risks and government failings, and introducing draconian legislation to prevent them from protesting, rather than honouring its manifesto and treaty commitments and taking responsible and meaningful action to preserve our precious environment for future generations.
