London, UK. 12th December, 2024. A supporter of PETA wearing goat horns stands outside the Burberry store in Regent Street holding a sign showing an image of a goat having its hair ripped out for cashmere accompanied by text urging shoppers not to buy cashmere products.
According to PETA's Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner, "There’s no comfort or joy for goats in the cashmere industry, where workers tie down the terrified animals and violently rip their hair out using sharp metal combs just to make jumpers and scarves. PETA encourages everyone to deck their halls and their wardrobes with cosy and luxurious vegan fabrics and keep cruel cashmere off of Christmas shopping lists."
PETA Asia investigations into cashmere operations in China and Mongolia, allegedly including one supplier with ties to Burberry, revealed horrific abuses of goats.
Security guards from inside the Burberry store tried to prevent the PETA supporter from standing with a sign on the pavement outside (a public place). Two attempts were made by them to seize the sign held by her and several threats of violence and at least one threat to smash cameras were made to press photographers covering the event.
