London, UK. 21st September, 2024. Environmental campaigners are given a guided tour of Whitewebbs Park, a public park in Enfield which has naturally rewilded since Whitewebbs Park Golf Course closed in 2021. Local residents are trying to save 60% of Whitewebbs Park from development by Tottenham Hotspur football club as a new women's training ground by means of a 25-year lease from Enfield Council and they are campaigning for it to become, instead, a designated nature reserve with environmentally-based community facilities. They state that 80 species of bird, 29 species of butterfly, 10 species of bat, great crested newts, badgers, muntjac deer and many other species are currently to be found in the park.
