Windsor, UK. 31st August, 2024. Day 2 of Extinction Rebellion UK's Upgrade Democracy protest activities at sites around Windsor Castle. A march from the climate activists' campsite in Home Park to Windsor Castle to deliver letters to King Charles III in a large pink postbox calling on him to use his voice to draw attention to the climate crisis was followed by a 'Massembly' themed around 'How might we make meaningful steps to upgrade democracy in the UK?' on the Long Walk. The pink postbox was left outside Windsor Castle by the climate activists, drawing attention from tourists and police officers alike, before being removed in a local council van. Extinction Rebellion's Upgrade Democracy campaign is intended to highlight the manner in which profits are safeguarded for oil and gas companies and to call on the UK government to create and to be led by a Citizens’ Assembly on Climate and Ecological Justice.
