Lakenheath, UK. 11th May, 2024. Supporters of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), including local residents and Christian groups, take part in a protest outside the main gate of RAF Lakenheath. The protesters called on the UK government to refuse delivery of US B61-12 thermonuclear bombs at the base and read out and posted on the perimeter fence a declaration that the base and surrounding area be designated as a nuclear-free zone. Documents published by the US Department of Defense earlier this year had suggested that the US plans to deploy B61-12 thermonuclear bombs at RAF Lakenheath which could be used with the F-35A Lightning II fighter jets based there as part of 48th Fighter Wing. The protest formed part of a national day of action by CND and speakers included representatives of CND, including vice-chair Sophie Bolt and local and student CND groups, the Green Party and Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp.
