London, UK. 21st October, 2023. Pro-Palestinian protesters march from Marble Arch to Downing Street in support of Palestinians in Gaza and to call for an end to the Israeli bombardment of the Palestinian territory. The demonstration is believed to have been the largest ever pro-Palestinian demonstration in the UK and among the largest ever demonstrations in the UK. With estimates ranging from 100,000 (the Metropolitan Police) to 300,000 (the organisers), it is clear both that there is massive popular support in the UK for freedom, justice and equality for Palestinians and that extensive campaigning by the UK government, the Labour Party leadership and large sections of the media to delegitimise and discredit pro-Palestinian protest in the UK has failed spectacularly, and possibly even backfired.
