London, UK. 24th March, 2023. Hundreds of British and Israeli Jews stage a 'pro-democracy' protest against the policies of the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu in Whitehall following a meeting in Downing Street between the Israeli Prime Minister and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Tens of thousands of Israelis have been protesting in Israel against Netanyahu's planned extension of political control over the Israeli legal system, including proposals to reduce the power of the Israeli Supreme Court.
Note: Israel is not a liberal democracy for millions of Palestinians. Palestinians living in the West Bank live under de facto Israeli control but cannot vote in Israeli elections; Palestinians living in East Jerusalem cannot vote in Israeli elections because they are not classed as Israeli citizens; and Palestinian citizens of Israel may vote in Israeli elections but have only an inferior version of Israeli citizenship due to a framework of discriminatory laws which adversely govern many key aspects of their lives. Even the Israeli Supreme Court, Netanyahu's attack on which has provoked huge pro-democracy protests in Israel, has little interest in defending the democratic rights of Palestinians, having ruled, for example, to allow the confiscation of Palestinian land, the demolition of Palestinian homes, the extrajudicial killing of Palestinians and the administrative detention (without trial) of Palestinians.
