London, UK. 23rd March, 2023. Head teachers hand in a petition organised by the National Education Union (NEU) at the Department for Education calling for urgent reform of the school inspection system and the replacement of Ofsted. The petition, which was signed by 52,000 people, had been started before Ruth Perry, head teacher at Caversham Primary School in Reading, took her own life while waiting for an Ofsted report. A vigil was held immediately afterwards outside the offices of Ofsted.
