Liz Truss makes a departure statement as Prime Minister outside 10 Downing Street before proceeding to meet King Charles III to tender her resignation at Buckingham Palace. Rishi Sunak had been appointed as leader of the Conservative Party the previous day, and so becomes Prime Minister automatically, having been the only candidate to obtain 100 nominations from Conservative MPs as specified for this particular Conservative Party leadership contest.
