Ascot, UK. 18th June, 2022. Racegoers pass animal rights activists from vegan campaigning charity Viva! attending a protest vigil outside Royal Ascot. Viva! is campaigning, together with Animal Aid, to raise awareness of the number of deaths of horses as a result of horse racing. According to Animal Aid's Racehorse Death Watch, there have been 2,457 horse racing deaths since 13th March 2007, 42 of which at Ascot. Race horse Star Safari was killed after sustaining fetlock injuries on Day 1 of Royal Ascot 2022.
