66 images Created 5 Jun 2021

London, UK. 5th June, 2021. Environmental activists and local residents protest against the construction of the Silvertown Tunnel. Campaigners opposed to the controversial new £2bn road link across the River Thames from the Tidal Basin Roundabout in Silvertown to Greenwich Peninsula argue that it is incompatible with the UK's climate change commitments because it will attract more traffic and so also increased congestion and air pollution to London's most polluted borough. The protest took the form of a march from Canning Town to The Crystal, which is to be the site of the Greater London Authority, via the tunnel entrance site in Silvertown. Speakers from the Green Party, the Labour Party, Choked Up, Mums for Lungs and local pressure groups addressed those present outside The Crystal. There was also a performance by the Extinction Rebellion banshees.
