London, UK. 5th May, 2021. Activists from groups including Kill The Bill, United for Black Lives (UBL) and Stop HS2 take part in a March On The Motorway event organised by Burning Pink to coincide with the eve of the London Mayoral election.
After speeches, including by Burning Pink London Mayoral candidate Valerie Brown, singing and samba drumming outside St Pancras Church, the activists marched along Euston Road and Marylebone Road to the Westway. The activists had reported that it had been agreed in advance with the Metropolitan Police that they would be permitted to block the westbound carriageway only of the Westway for up to one hour, but, upon arrival at the start of the Westway, police officers and a police vehicle barred their path and then drove them out of the road.
Burning Pink is a radical political party campaigning for rapid action to combat the climate emergency, among other issues, through the setting up of citizens assemblies.
