Jones' Hill Wood, Aylesbury Vale, UK. 5th October, 2020. Daniel Marc Hooper, better known as 'Swampy', assists fellow anti-HS2 tree protectors from a makeshift tree house about sixty feet above ground at a wildlife protection camp in precious ancient woodland at Jones’ Hill Wood. Swampy, now 47, became well-known as an environmental activist during the 1990s after living in a tunnel for a week whilst protesting against the rerouting of the A30 in Devon and was also involved in campaigns against the Newbury bypass, Manchester Airport and the M11. The Jones’ Hill Wood camp, one of several protest camps set up by anti-HS2 activists along the route of the £106bn HS2 high-speed rail link in order to resist the controversial infrastructure project, is currently being evicted by National Eviction Team bailiffs working on behalf of HS2 Ltd.
