Denham, UK. 28th September, 2020. Two anti-HS2 activists occupy the roof of the cab of a heavy goods vehicle so as to block it en route to a site in Denham Country Park where woodland is being felled in connection with the HS2 high-speed rail link. One of the activists secures himself to the truck using a large rope which is then looped around his neck. He later also glues himself to the truck. A substantial policing operation by Thames Valley Police, including also specialist public order officers, is put in place to facilitate the removal of the activists on behalf of HS2 - the activist glued to the HGV was removed by force - and their subsequent arrests. Environmental activists continue to try to prevent or delay works on the controversial £106bn project for which the construction phase was announced on 4th September from a series of protection camps based along the route of the line between London and Birmingham, such as the Denham Ford Protection Camp.
