Harefield, UK. 13th July, 2020. Ground clearance work for the HS2 high-speed rail link continues in the Colne Valley. Thousands of trees have already been felled in the area for the £106bn project which will remain a net contributor to CO2 emissions during its projected 120-year lifetime. A drilling rig is expected to be used to drill through the chalk aquifer which supplies around 22% of London's drinking water. Environmental campaigners from groups including HS2 Rebellion continue to oppose the destruction and are highlighting the risk of contamination to the water supply through drilling.
