2020-02-11 Activists opposed to HS2 arrested as Boris Johnson announces decision to proceed

44 images Created 11 Feb 2020

Denham, UK. 11 February, 2020. Thames Valley Police officers arrest environmental activists who had been ‘slow walking’ and picking up litter from the roadside in front of a HGV delivering a JCB forklift vehicle to a HS2 site on the morning on which Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his decision to proceed with the first phase of the high-speed rail link from London to Birmingham. One police officer refers to a booklet entitled 'Counter Terrorism Policing' whilst issuing warnings prior to the arrests. Contractors working on behalf of HS2 in the area are now rerouting electricity pylons through a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation (SMI) rather than a nearby golf course as part of works for the high-speed rail link.
