HS2 engineers and security guards use two roadblocks to try to prevent environmental activists from Save the Colne Valley, Stop HS2 and Extinction Rebellion from accessing an area of Harvil Road in the Colne Valley containing trees which HS2 has designated for felling in order to straighten a road in connection with the high-speed rail project. The Chiltern rail line was also closed to enable the tree felling. HS2 engineers tried to commence tree felling using a chainsaw and strimmers on several occasions but were thwarted by activists both on the ground and in the trees, many of whom had used a variety of techniques to access the site. After an intervention by a police officer in the early afternoon, it was announced that HS2 had agreed to suspend all scheduled tree felling and strimming work on the site for the weekend.
