2020-02-03 Environmental activists stall HS2 work in Colne Valley

Denham, UK. 3 February, 2020. Environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion, Save Colne Valley and Stop HS2 seek to prevent works for the HS2 high-speed rail link including the felling of 200 trees and the construction of a Bailey bridge, compounds, fencing and a parking area by occupying a bridge. Part of the location for the HS2 works lies within a wetland nature reserve forming part of a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation (SMI). In spite of a substantial police presence, the HS2 works were unable to proceed for the duration of the day.
