2020-01-19 Stand for the Trees/Stop HS2 Day 3

39 images Created 19 Jan 2020

Harefield, UK. 19 January, 2020. Activists from Extinction Rebellion, Stop HS2 and Save the Colne Valley attend the third day of a ‘Stand for the Trees/Stop HS2’ event timed to coincide with tree felling work believed to have been scheduled by HS2 for the high-speed rail link. Activities took place at both the woodland and roadside elements of the Colne Valley wildlife protection camp from which bailiffs acting on behalf of HS2 had evicted activists over the course of the past week and a half. A field behind the roadside camp was reclaimed by the activists as a campsite after almost two weeks. The activists are trying to prevent the destruction of ancient woodland at a time of climate emergency. 108 ancient woodlands are set to be destroyed by the high-speed rail link.
