London, UK. 8 October, 2019. Climate activists from Extinction Rebellion continue to block streets around Westminster on the second day of International Rebellion protests to demand a government declaration of a climate and ecological emergency, a commitment to halting biodiversity loss and net zero carbon emissions by 2025 and for the government to create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice. Events included the creation of a fledgling forest of potted native trees (#reforestearth) outside Parliament from which trees were then presented to MPs to call on the government to plant billions of trees across the UK and support the planting of trillions more around the world and a march to the Department for Education by XR Youth.
