28 images Created 1 Jul 2019

Datchet, UK. 30 June, 2019. Pre-1905 vehicles arrive in Datchet on completion of the 48-mile Ellis Journey from Micheldever station near Winchester. The Ellis Journey is a reenactment of the first recorded journey by a motorised carriage in England undertaken by pioneer automobilist Hon. Evelyn Ellis in his new, custom-built Panhard-Levassor on 5th July 1895. The original journey contravened the law because the Panhard-Levassor exceeded 4mph and was not preceded by an attendant holding a red flag. Entertainment was provided by Datchet Border Morris and Romsey Ukulele Group and announcements by Windsor and Maidenhead Town Crier Chris Brown.
