Striking outsourced workers, predominantly migrants, belonging to the Independent Workers of Great Britain (IWGB), United Voices of the World (UVW) and Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) trade unions and working at the University of London (IWGB), Ministry of Justice (UVW) and Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (PCS) respectively, together with representatives of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) Regional Council, take part in a 'Clean Up Outsourcing' demonstration to call for an end to the practice of outsourcing through which workers are offered wages, sick pay, holiday entitlements and other benefits which are inferior to directly employed staff. The joint demonstration, unprecedented in terms of its cooperation between three different trade unions, was organised to coincide with the significant High Court hearing of an application by the IWGB for judicial review of a decision by the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) not to hear their application for trade union recognition for the purposes of collective bargaining with the University of London. Migrant workers and several Labour politicians, including Shadow Business Secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey and Shadow Business Minister Laura Pidcock, spoke at locations along the route of the demonstration from the University of London to the Ministry of Justice via the Royal Courts of Justice, Parliament Square and the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy.
