London, UK. 21st December, 2018. Environmental campaigners from Extinction Rebellion remember the 27 people found burnt alive in the Greek village of Mati after July's wildfires during a protest outside Broadcasting House against the lack of coverage by the BBC of the climate change crisis. The campaigners requested a meeting with BBC Director General Tony Hall, that the BBC declare a climate and ecological emergency, that the BBC place the climate and ecological emergency as its top editorial and corporate priority, that the BBC divest all pension funds, investments and bank accounts from fossil fuel corporations and their bankers, that the BBC, its subsidiaries and its supply chain agree to be zero-carbon by 2025, that the BBC publish an annual eco-audit of all BBC operations, that the BBC take a lead in encouraging other media corporations to join global efforts to save humanity and that the BBC only allow think-tank spokespersons or lobbyists on-air to discuss the climate and ecological emergency if their funding is fully transparent.
