London, UK. 11th December, 2018. Hundreds of protesters attend a rally outside the Home Office in solidarity with the Stansted 15. The Stansted 15, campaigners against immigration deportation and detention, had been convicted the previous day of an anti-terrorism offence under the Aviation and Maritime Security Act 1990 following non-violent direct action to try to prevent a Home Office deportation flight to Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone from taking off from Stansted airport in March 2017. The judge had directed the jury to disregard evidence put forward in their defence that their acts were intended to stop human rights abuses.
